WIRE LOVE - Leave The Bones [Album Review]

German Visions Magazine recently premiered Wire Love's (ex- Orbit The Earth) first Video/Single for the track "Bones". Check it out HERE! The band's debut “Leave The Bones" released today via This Charming Man Records. Our friends over at Plug Music Agency hooked Scott Zambonini up with a pre-release copy to review and these were his final impressions...
Wire Love is a Post Harcore band from Münster, Germany that has risen from the ashes of the former Orbit the Earth. The LP starts off with Symmetry which enters with some bent crunch tones followed by a driven verse and a dreamy progressive transition. The Post Hardcore influence is pretty evident here from the get go with a nice bass line driven interlude at 2:14 being accompanied by roomy drums and eventually melodic driven chords & chants. The melodic delay lead and synth add the cherry on top before a light acoustic outro leads directly into the next track, Red Dress.
Chaos ensues in the intro followed by ambient clean guitars and screams with some sweet drum fills and snare builds. The style seems to remind me of the album 'Loveless' by the band Dream on Dreamer. At 2:15 there's a nice break section with panned guitars playing different riffs which is something refreshing to hear in the modern world of overdubbed mirror guitar standards.
Fast forward to Luminance Forever and I am greeted by a lone guitar ambient intro lick similar to that of 'Devastator' by For Today. The track then progresses into some more chaotic shouts and riffs with panned guitars playing separate licks. The bass definitely has a nice amount of presence in the mix and I find myself being able to really latch on to the low end grooves. This impression is supported by the massive production: recorded at the Tonmeisterei in Oldenburg.
Learning Love begins with some eerie riff-age and aggressive drum beats followed up by a nice blend of left-panned chordal strums and right panned progressive licks. 00:40 brings in some dissonant continuous riffs which gives the impression the listener is descending into madness. After some phase effected bass at 01:28 there is a sweet sounding tapping section brought in, which is a nice change of tone. This then progresses into an almost pitch shifted lead. The tapping is brought back towards the end to close off the song with a sudden stop.
After a solid listening session it's safe to say that this album is a Post Hardcore fans treat with solid production true to the genre. I really enjoyed having the hard panned guitars playing different riffs and licks complemented by a solid bass and drum synergy. In a nutshell it sounds as if the band was performing live in front of you. The vocals are perfect for the genre and share the front of the mix with the other instruments as opposed to staying solely in the front line.
If you're in the mood for a progressive trip give this record a spin.
